ROCK RIDGE
JAMES BAXTER HUNT SR., died Wednesday, May 7, 2003, at his home in Rock Ridge. He was born in Greensboro on July 20, 1911, to William Baker
Hunt, Sr., and Mary Letitia Ross. At an early age, the family moved to a dairy farm in Pleasant Garden where he helped with the cows, drove a milk truck to
Greensboro, and graduated Pleasant Garden High School in 1929. He first attended Asbury College, a Methodist school, in Wilmore, KY. He transferred to
what is now NC State University, graduating in 1934 with a degree in Wildlife Management. He began work with the Department of Agriculture in what soon
became the Soil Conservation Service. He retired in 1966 with 32 years of federal service. Service to the farmers was always his goal. He sometimes fought
department bureaucrats regarding needless red tape which he felt hurt farmers. In 1997, he was inducted into the N. C. Soil and Water Conservation Hall of
Fame.
James married Elsie Celia Brame on August 24, 1934. They lived in Shelby, Burlington, Raleigh, Wilson, and eventually built their permanent home on
Brame land in Rock Ridge in 1941. James and Elsie became quite involved in the community through their jobs, church, and the Grange, a farm organization.
He organized Granges across much of Eastern North Carolina and served as Master of the Wilson County Grange. Later, James became involved with Mt. Olive
College where he served for 25 years on the Board of Trustees, 13 years as chairman, and was awarded their Distinguished Friend of the College in 1989. He
was also Superintendent of the Sunday School at Marsh Swamp Free Will Baptist Church for over 20 years.
Possessing a strong personality, he was not afraid to fight for what he felt was right. If people were unfairly criticizing someone or a group, especially a
powerless group, he would gather the facts, usually in the form of a clipped newspaper article (which he carried in his wallet) and confront the person regarding
his "error."
After the death of his wife of 56 years, James married the former Pearl Reardon Johnson who survives him. He is survived by his sons, James B. Hunt, Jr.
and wife Carolyn Leonard Hunt of Rock Ridge; Robert Brame Hunt and wife, Margaret Hambright Hunt of Clayton; grandchildren, Rebecca Hunt Hawley and
husband, Jimmy Hawley of Rock Ridge, James Baxter Hunt, III and wife, Deb Derrick of Ottawa, Canada, Rachel Hunt Nilender and husband, Dr. Olav Nilender
of Charlotte, Elizabeth Brame Hunt Amigh and husband, Kevin of Clayton, Mark Brame Hunt and wife, Jill of Garner, and Ensign Sarah Ross Hunt of San
Diego, CA; great-grandchildren are: Hannan Streeter Hawley, Joseph Thorton Hawley, Stephanie Davies Hunt, James Baxter Hunt, IV, Lindsey Derrick Hunt,
Katia Hunt Nilender, Jonas Hunt Nilender, Jackson Zeak Amigh, and Grace Leonard Amigh. Step daughters are Glenda Johnson Moody and Wanda Johnson
both of Garner.
In addition to his first wife, he was predeceased by his siblings: Kate Hunt Kirkman, Charles Jackson Hunt, Lynn Ross Hunt, and William B. Hunt, Jr. of
Pleasant Garden, Paul Addison Hunt of Norwalk, CT, and Mary Elizabeth Hunt Henley of Chapel Hill.
Visitation will be at Joyner's Funeral Home in Wilson on Saturday, May 10, from 7:00 9:00 p.m. The funeral will be conducted by Rev. Ray Wells and Dr. W.
Burkette Raper at Marsh Swamp Church on Sunday at 3:00 pm with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to the James and Elsie Hunt Endowment at Mount Olive College, 634 Henderson Street, Mount Olive, NC 28365.

Paul Bowman Jobe married Paige Thorburn (I do not know her maiden name), and they had six children in this order: Rachel Jobe, Samuel Bowman Jobe, Mary Jobe, Susanna Jobe, Catherine Dawn Jobe, and Marc Jobe. Byron and Patricia have three children: my mother, Amy Scott Morgan (born Amy Elaine Scott) and Kenneth Byron Scott. Amy Elaine Scott married a man named Kenneth Morgan and had three children in this order: Christopher Morgan, Jeremy Morgan, Abigail Morgan. I do not know many dates or middle names unfortunately, and I don't know as much about my uncle Kenneth Byron Scott. Every single Scott and Morgan mentioned was born in the state of Georgia, but in different towns. I will follow up with more specific information after I get in contact with these people.

I just received this from Pat ... her oldest daughter and my godmother.
On January 25th Mom passed away very peacefully. ... & my daughter Shirley was sitting with us ... Mom was 93 in September ... We took Mom home to Dover Plains. Her funeral mass was at St. Charles Borromeo (our home parish) and she was interred right next to Dad.
Louise was a great lady and always had a smile for me when we went to her house in Dover, plus she worked in school kitchens and did taxes for town.

185. “Obituary.”
Douglas Robert McCarthy of Preston passed away Thursday, August 5, 2004 at Overlake Hospital Medical Center. He was 61.
Mr. McCarthy was born July 10, 1943 in Brooklyn, New York to John and Virginia McCarthy. He was raised in Brooklyn until the age of 13 when the family moved to Pearl River, New York. In 1960 he graduated from Pearl River High School. Doug furthered his education, receiving his Bachelor’s of Science in Mathematics from Rensselaer Poly Technical Institute in 1964 and his Doctorate in Mathematics in 1969 from Rutgers University.
On November 21, 1964 he married his high school sweetheart, Marion Ann Ulmer, in Red Bank, New Jersey. In 1969 they moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana where he worked as a professor of mathematics at Purdue University.
In 1984, a job at The Boeing Company necessitated a move to the Seattle area. They lived on the Issaquah Plateau before moving to Preston in 1990. Doug was still working as a Mathematician for Boeing at the time of his passing.
In his leisure time he enjoyed classical music, chess, travel and martinis. Doug especially enjoyed spending time with his family and new grandson. His family will remember him as a loving husband and father with a compassionate nature and deep intellect. He will be deeply missed.
In addition to his wife of nearly forty years, survivors include his daughter, Myra Anderson of Burien; brother, Brian McCarthy of Nashua, New Hampshire; mother, Virginia McCarthy; one grandson and a host of extended family members and friends.
A funeral service will be held 10 am, Saturday, August 7, 2004 at Flintoft’s Funeral Home in Issaquah. A committal service will follow at Preston Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests remembrances to the American Heart Association or the Overlake Hospital Medical Center Foundation.

To make a long story short, the Hunt burial ground appears to be on the 370 acres John Hunt got in 1779 as a North Carolina land grant. ...
